Liceo Scientifico Statale "Girolamo Fracastoro"
Our school is a grammar school situated in the historical city centre of Verona with separate site in the suburbs. We have a total of 1,300 students aged 14 to 19 and they all study English as their first foreign language. Apart from the science-based course of studies, we also have a foreign languages course where we teach French, German and Spanish. Our school has a long experience in organising cultural exchanges with various European countries such as France, Germany, Holland, Romania, Spain, Sweden and the UK. We have also joined an Individual Pupil Mobility Project which has been running successfully for two years. The presence of migrants' children has also encouraged us to develop and carry out several multicultural projects with the aim of increasing cultural sensitivity and acceptance, preventing, in this way, students from leaving school.

VERONA The name "Verona" means "river's city": Our River is ADIGE. The Venetics and Romans were friends and Verona was built from 89 B.C. to 49 B.C. It is a marvelous Roman city. It has streets, like VIA POSTUMIA and Decumano Massimo, walls and gates, like Porta Borsari Iovia and Porta dei Leoni , houses (domus), squares like Piazza delle Erbe, cathedrals like the Capitolium, theatres like the Roman Theatre and the marvelous Amphitheatre of Arena di Verona. Through the centuries Verona has kept its character and many monuments. Many people visit the Roman and Medieval centre including, of course, Juliet ‘s house and balcony! |
Also, during the summer, people can attend the magnificent Opera Festival which takes place every year. In 2013 we celebrate the 100th anniversary of the Opera Festival.
Verona is situated near Garda Lake with mountains all around it for example Monte Baldo. People can even go skiing there. The land scape in Verona is beautiful. It is also renowned for its wines such as Valpolicella and Soave. Its Vinitaly wine festival, its Agriculture fair in springtime, its Horse fair in autumn and its Marble fair are also very important. Verona is really a beautiful city: we have a river, a lake, mountains, fields... we hope you will like it! |
